A gift to SPEF will benefit students at all five South Pasadena public schools. SPEF’s annual fall fund drive, happening again this year, is a convenient way for you to help all students in the school district.
In October, every family in the district will receive a fundraising phone call, unless you have already given, and a follow-up email from a SPEF volunteer.
In November, we will show our thanks by placing our lively orange-and-black yard signs all over town. Please join us; any amount you can give is welcome. We can’t do this without you.
Over the fall, our Teacher Direct Grants committee awarded each of our three elementary librarians a grant to run their schools’ annual California Young Reader Medal program. The librarians are working with teachers to read each class. Students eventually will vote on their favorite book.
A Little About SPEF
SPEF Board applications are open for the 2020-2021 school year. If you want to make a positive impact on all five schools in South Pasadena then this is where you belong! SPEF provides the funds to enable the district to offer educational enrichment opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable. SPEF works with the community to raise funds through parent contributions, business donations, foundation and private grants, and events like Parti Gras. SPEF also raises money through the operation of enrichment programs such as K-12 Summer School, Summer Camps, Afterschool, and 5th Grade Musical.
The volunteer working board of directors is composed of parents, business people and community leaders. Board members work year round to create and execute fundraising plans. Since its inception in 1979, SPEF has given funds to the district in the form of ongoing grants for specific programs and curriculum innovations, as well as one-time grants such as for 2015 “Train Your Brain” program and the funding used to start the Biomedical, Computer Science, and Engineering pathways at SPHS.
Applications Are Due by February 19, 2020
