Recognizing that while skills and drills are critical to the improvement of a student or athlete, making the curriculum fun and exciting is vital to developing the passion for learning and the game.

SPEF Camps will focus on all aspects of the curriculum with emphasis on fundamental skill development appropriate for beginners to more experienced students and players.

SPEF’s Next Generation Coding Camp is a coding boot camp that gives incoming 3rd to 8th-grade students a first-look introduction to the world of computer science. The camp will be taught by passionate and knowledgeable SPHS Coding Club members as well as teachers in the field.

Your child will leave SPEF’s Next Generation Coding Camp with a general understanding of computer science through a variety of interactive activities, basic block coding lessons, guest speakers from the computer science field, and more!.

Next Generation Coding Camp will focus on:

  • developing an understanding of computer science and its real-life applications, especially the increasing job opportunities specific to the field
  • exploring basic coding concepts through interactive hands-on activities and writing short programs with block coding
  • learning how to develop computer science knowledge through programs offered at the middle school and high school

A.C. Green Basketball Leadership & Skills Camp

TigerBasketball LogoBack in South Pasadena for the 5th year! Through the SPEF/A. C. Green Basketball Camp, kids have fun playing basketball while they learn more about the game. The camp challenges players in all aspects of the game on the court, as well as off the court through participation in leadership and character development.  Players are grouped based on age and skill level, and will be:

  • Engaged in activities that encourage vital life skills of cooperation, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
  • Taught athletic skills and participate in character development while having a fun experience.
  • Practice and apply the fundamentals of shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding and defense to equip players with the necessary skills to advance to their next level.

ART CAMP – 2 Weeks Available

Let your child’s imagination soar this summer. This fun-filled camp is the perfect place to discover art, both indoors and out. Campers will be excited to learn about art concepts, practice techniques & produce artwork that shows their individual personal perspective.

This week-long art camp offers students the opportunity to work both independently and with a group in order to develop as an artist while learning about world cultures through the study of various art techniques from a variety of points across the globe.

Activities may include working with fibers, printmaking, mixed-media sculpture, cartooning, drawing, and painting.
Art Camp includes drawing, painting, mixed media and sculpture: nature walks; storytelling; and creative movement.

Students will explore art through projects such as drawing and painting, altered books, ceramics and the art of storytelling through film plus more.

Golf Academy Camp – 2 Weeks Available

Language Immersion Camp Mandarin & Spanish 2 weeks available

Join our Dual Immersion teachers for this fun Mandarin & Spanish Immersion Arts camp and prevent Summer Slide! Students will refine their skills in either the Mandarin or Spanish language through theatre, song, dance, and art. Children will rotate every day from one fun-filled activity to the next. The design of the camp is to enhance vocabulary and comprehension while continuing to develop an understanding of Chinese & Latin American culture. Students should be currently enrolled in a Dual Immersion program or be proficient in Spanish.

Students should be currently enrolled in a Dual Immersion program or be proficient in either Mandarin or Spanish language. The teachers will only speak the languages being taught.

Science Exploration Camp

Science Exploration Camp provides kids with the perfect Summer mix of hands-on science projects, combined with teamwork and fun.

Fun Experiments • Science in Real Life

We’ll do interactive experiments, and see examples of science up close!  From geology to rocketry – Science Exploration Camp gives kids the chance to see science in real life and to have fun while learning and exploring.

When: July 16 – 20

Dance Intensive Camp

 SPEF’S Summer Dance Intensive is a week full of dance, music, and making new friends!  In this camp, we will explore the joy of movement plus improve balance, build self-esteem, and fitness while having fun!

Modern • Ballet • Jazz • Hip Hop • Tap

Students will learn warm up exercises, and get to try different styles of dance.  Students will learn dance routines that help develop focus and give students practice following directions. This camp is a positive introduction to dance in a non-competitive environment. No previous experience necessary to enroll.

When: July 30 – Aug 3

Time: 9 am – 2 pm

Who: Grades 3-8

Tennis Camp 

A unique and dynamic tennis camp designed to address physical and cognitive skills and abilities through tennis and fitness. Each day will address a different set of tennis skills including forehand, backhand, volley, overhead, serve, and the rules & scoring of the game. The fitness aspect will address basic fitness, footwork, agility, and technique.
A few of the tennis training focuses will be:
  • Being a good sport
  • Perfecting the serve
  • Working on and improving form
  • Playing the game with integrity
  • Setting personal goals

Soccer Skills Camp with Brit-West Soccer

TigerSoccerSPEF is partnering with Brit-West Soccer to bring you a soccer camp designed to develop each child’s ball skills and techniques. Each day includes individual foot skills, agility, technical drills and small sided games. To ensure each camper receives the appropriate level of coaching, players are grouped according to age and experience. Our curriculum is designed to help each child reach their true potential.

Develop individual skills through training exercises and small sided games. The daily schedule includes a warm-up, agility and speed, and a focal skill of the day (technical training), fun games and coaching in small sided games to put acquired techniques into the game situation. Skills of the day are Passing, Dribbling, Shooting and Ball Control / Heading. Fridays are ‘World Cup Day’ where teams wear their colors to compete in relays, small sided games, learn fun facts about their country and make us laugh to score points for their world cup team.

  • Individual skills and technical training
  • Develop tactical skills for game strategy such as defending and attacking
  • Work on positioning as a Forward, Defender, and Midfielder.
