SPEF offers fall and spring Afterschool classes for students at our three SPUSD elementary schools and at SPMS for current SPUSD students.
Look out for fun and creative classes to give your student an experience different from their regular school day. SPEF Mandarin Afterschool classes start the last week of August, all others after Labor Day.
Current SPMS students in grades 6-8 are invited to join SPMS Director Mr. Mastain & the SPEF-Upstage Theater Schools team in the upcoming production of ‘Newsies Jr.’
Key dates (proposed):
Actor Stream – Start date Feb-19. Rehearsals Typically Wed & Fri 3-5:00pm @SPMS
Costumes Crew & Stage Crew options – April Start (dates TBD) – Optional Costumes sessions on Wed in Feb/Mar.
Dress Rehearsal week – Attendance is Compulsory Tech Week & Performance Weekend

Afterschool FAQ’s
Classoom/Meeting Point – On the Friday prior to your student’s class, look out for an email from SPEF with information specific to your student’s class.
Supervision – Coaches/teachers will supervise enrolled students from school dismissal until the start of class.
Dismissal Gate – Teachers will walk students to the nominate Gate for dismissal, please be on time.
SPUSD Extended Daycare – Students registered with SPUSD Extended daycare should first check in with that program. We are currently working on protocols for students in Kindercare, but it looks like coaches/teachers collect from Kindercare as part of class.
Health – As SPEF classes are on SPUSD campuses, SPEF will follow SPUSD guidelines – don’t send your student to Afterschool class if ill.
Holidays & Early Dismissal Days – There are no classes on days when there is no school. There are no classroom-based classes Parent conference week. We will email you closer to early dismissal days if coaches/teachers are available to hold class at an earlier time to match dismissal.
Seating charts – Will be used in classroom-based classes if needed. Please remind your student that classrooms must be left clean. Items inside desks and on classroom benches, unless provided by your Afterschool teacher, are not to be used.
Current SPUSD students only – SPEF Afterschool classes are for current SPUSD students. Summer school and Camps are open to all.
Early Pickup/Absence from class – If you would like us to share with your Afterschool teacher that your student will be absent, please email registration@spef4kids.o
