Mandarin Immersion (Grades K-5) 3:15 pm-5:15 pm
This class is ideal for students, new and returning, who are interested in practicing Mandarin conversation skills and developing an appreciation for Chinese culture. Learn or refresh students’ counting skills, knowledge of symbols and key conversational phrases while studying Chinese culture.
Tuesdays:
Basketball (GradesK-3) 1:15 pm – 2:15 pm
Kassirer Basketball is a FUN non-competitive, after-school enrichment class, run by a former professional athlete and taught by world-class basketball coaches. Each week, players will get to work on skills; play group games; and scrimmage! We teach professional quality fundamentals; the importance of teamwork, defense, communication and sportsmanship in a nurturing, safe environment.
Marine Biology (Grades K-2) 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm

World Of Design (Grades 2-5) 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Is your student curious about a career in graphic, urban or product design? In this class, students will use the Design Thinking Process to define, brainstorm and design potential solutions to real-world problems in different environments, such as the rainforest, Hollywood or Mars. Students will use sculpting, storyboarding, collage and mixed media techniques in this class. Join this new class, and take a journey into the World of Design!
Wednesdays:
Next Generation Coding Workshop (Grades 3-6) 3:15 pm – 5:15 pm
A coding workshop that gives 3rd – 6th-grade students a first-look introduction to the world of computer science. Classes will be held at the SPHS Library. Students will develop an understanding of computer science and its real-life applications. NGCW will focus on exploring basic coding concepts through interactive hands-on activities and writing short programs, inspiring students to use computer science to turn their ideas into actual products and programs and showing students the world of computer science and its endless possibilities. NGCW instructors are passionate and knowledgeable SPHS Coding Club members as well as teachers in the field. Your students will be mentored by our SPHS students which allows them to get a glimpse at the possibilities of what is available for them at the High School.
Mad Science (Grades 2-4) 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Let’s Get Scientific! Take a walk on the wild side as kids explore zoology, the study of animals. We’ll spring into action with the science of energy. We’ll find out how telephones and radios work, and dive into the deep end and study ocean life. Mix things up with a little chemistry, then test out the laws of motion as we launch objects through the air. Science has never been more exciting! Mad Science offers hands-on, inquiry-based science classes with new content for returning students!
RoboQ (Grades 3-5) 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm
RoboQ specializes in STEAM education utilizing Electronics and Robotics. RoboQ transforms the classroom into a mobile tinkering lab, where students learn to build robots that draw, and robots that mix colors with a motor. Students will learn to build circuits with an LED, and make magnetic goo!
Thursdays:
Soccer (Grades K-2 & 3-5) 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Coach Meghan and Emily of Brit West Soccer offer a developmentally appropriate soccer curriculum that teaches skills through fun games in the context of STEAM topics. Each class highlights a specific skill such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and game development, while also introducing a new STEAM concept. Run, jump, kick lots of goals and smile! With enough enrollees, we’ll be able to have a second coach, and students will be grouped with their peers – encourage your friends to sign up!
Ukelele (Grades K-2) 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Students will learn the basics of the ukulele and practice songs arranged specifically for the instrument. Students will learn fundamental music skills, like reading and writing music. For a fun way to practice skills, students will play music games. Experienced ukulele players are welcome and will have a great time learning new songs and composing. You are welcome to bring your own instrument or borrow one from Ms. Ashley.
Young Directors (Grades 2-5) 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm
This unique and exciting class teaches the basics of entrepreneurship while giving students a hands-on opportunity to experience the film development cycle from storytelling and storyboarding, to casting and film production. Students celebrate their entrepreneurial accomplishments through the creation of passion-driven short films. At the end of the session, they will put on a film festival for the South Pasadena community.
Fridays:
Egghead Astronauts (Grades 2-4) 1:15 pm – 2:15 pm
Blast off this session with the Egghead Astronaut Crew as we explore the far reaches of our universe. Students will set off rockets, make huge chemical reactions, make lava slime, look for life and rocks on other planets, recycle water in space, and make out of this world volcanoes on their way to becoming astronauts! The best part? Students get to take home their experiment every week! Professor Egghead Science Academy offers the coolest science and engineering programs for girls and boys in grades K-3rd. At the end of the session, students will receive their own Egghead Astronaut Degree. Science has never been this cool!
Jazz & Hip Hop (Grades K-3) 1:15 pm – 2:15 pm
Instructors from Plaza Production and Funky Divas and Dudes will teach students current dance steps in jazz and hip-hop. The dance moves taught are age appropriate, and the teachers steer away from music and movement that is too mature. Students will improve strength, memory, stamina, and flexibility all while having a lot of fun! Join our final class performance!
Tennis (Grades 1-2) 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm
Our instructors from Kassirer Tennis will teach your student many skills for playing tennis! We set up portable nets and provide racquets and balls and bring tennis to the playground. The coaches emphasize sportsmanship and teamwork. Whether new to tennis or not, all students will find this class engaging and fun!
